Virginia Beach Information
Virginia Beach is one of the East Coast's most well known seaside resorts. Every year more than 5.4 million tourists make it their destination of choice. For families in particular this oceanfront town is ideal as there is lots to do and see.
In an effort to hold onto its reputation as a family-friendly destination the city enacted a myriad of regulations 4 years ago that prohibit, among other things, the playing of loud car stereos, public cursing, and thong bathing suits. To enforce these measure two 'niceness' squadrons exist. Comprised entirely of volunteers these two groups monitor locals and visitors. The Youth Intervention Team focuses on the conduct of partygoers and The Friendship Patrol helps the Virginia Beach Police nab violators. Controversial in nature, this "No Bad Behavior" campaign appears to be paying off, as visitors appear to appreciate the safe and non-intimidating atmosphere that the policies help to maintain. The numbers appear to reinforce this casual observation as well. What is it about Virginia Beach that keeps 5.4 million visitors coming year after year?
Maybe it is its array of museums? The Chrysler Museum Of Art is one of the region's finest art museums and the Virginia Marine Science Museum is the most popular museum in the entire state of Virginia! This city is also home to historical sites such as First Landing Cross, where the first Jamestown settlers came ashore, and the Andrew Thoroughgood House, one of the oldest brick buildings in the United States.
Maybe it is the spectacular natural setting? The Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, located at Virginia Beach's most southernmost tip is one of the last undisturbed ecosystems on the East Coast.
Maybe it is the fun to be had by all ages? Comedy clubs and theatrical groups abound. Peabody's, a beachside club catering to the 18-35 crowd provides some of the largest dance parties on the East Coast and many of the clubs and bars that line the oceanfront feature live nightly entertainment. Children are not left out either. Parks like the Holiday Trav-L offer hayrides, playgrounds, swimming pools and other activities that are sure to keep them happy and occupied.
If you are planning to come here on vacation for any of the above reasons you will be in good company. Last year Virginia Beach posted a record number of visitors at a time when other tourist attractions found themselves suffering. This is one destination that clearly delivers!
